Futures Assignment

This blog is a little late but hopefully I will remember the important information of the evenings work.

For the futures project me and Jiri decided to tackle the subject of interactive design. We had a brain storming session and came up with some ideas about what was meant by interactive design in the present.
We decided to compare the iphone and Samsung mobile phone after an experience Jiri had choosing a new phone and seeing the difference between the design and layout of the two phones. We also thought of looking into the integration of apps into everyday objects like a fridge that would order food for you from a supermarket.

We went to the library and started research in to interactive design. We looked at a interactive table that could interact with your iphone and help with moving of files from one source to another and let you play your music on your mobile through the table and then through your Hi-Fi system.

This kind of interactivity shows how in the future designers need to make technology accessible to the end users, with clear intuitive design that is easily learnt with the minimum amount of input from the user as possible. Again the iphone is paving the way for this type of thinking.

We concluded our talk by asking what does this mean for designers?

We think that the biggest hurdle that designers have is to get a real understanding of how people interact with the technology. As designers we need to understand the human interaction, psychology, behaviour and maybe even sociology on some level.

Interactive design needs to be hassle free to make it an enjoyable experience for the end user and not a frustrating one.
